Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is asking members of the public and stakeholders to have their say on its draft Bus Strategy in a consultation which will run until 22nd February 2023.
The Bus Strategy sets the vision for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough which is for a comprehensive network of bus services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough that people find convenient, easy to use, reliable, affordable, and offers an attractive alternative to the car.
The purpose of the Bus Strategy is not to examine detailed, granular issues around specific routes and services; more to outline the key, strategic aims, objectives, and aspirations the region has for its bus network to enable the Combined Authority and partners to bid for further funding and shape the network to meet the needs of residents and businesses.
There is currently a serious mains burst in the pumping station at the entrance to The Thorpe in Hemingford Grey, which is causing disruption to the roads in the area. For more information, please refer to Hemingford Grey Parish Council website, click on the link below:

Having met with an Openreach engineer, the Council have learned that there will be two new poles installed to carry the required overhead fibre cables:
Poles are being used as Openreach say this is more cost effective than digging up the road. Each will be approximately 9m long and sunk 2m into the ground, backfilled with concrete. No road closures are expected during installation. The wires will be at a minimum 5.9m elevation so as not to interfere with traffic etc. The Rideaway pole should be in place before Christmas and the one on Meadow Lane early next year.
Over time the existing elevated copper wiring will be removed as this is phased out, but other telecoms / fibre providers may come and fit their own additional poles, as apparently there is no requirement for suppliers to share these pieces of infrastructure.
We would encourage you to speak with us about anything that might affect your properties, as we may not necessarily have been informed, but we may be able to help.
Be aware that several drain covers seem to have gone missing around the village, leaving a deep hole and a safety issue for cars, cyclists and horses.
The Parish Clerk is aware of the problem and has contacted the appropriate authorities.
Earlier this year the Parish Council improved the signage on the village Playing Field following advice from the annual safety inspection. Coral Walton of ‘Coral Designs’ was engaged to undertake the design and layout. There are new signs at the three entrances to the field. These signs give contact details for the Parish Clerk should any maintenance or safety matters need to be reported. And, importantly, they remind the public that dogs are not allowed on the Playing Field for reasons of public health.
The Parish Council then commissioned an entirely different type of sign – a welcome and information board. It has been a fun project to be part of – and the Parish Council is very pleased with the result and hopes you will be too.

The Parish Council was delighted to present Sue Henderson and Pam Bartlett with a small token of appreciation for their efforts in helping organise a wonderful Jubilee weekend. Each was given a David Austin shrub rose named ‘Elizabeth’, which hopefully will serve as a happy reminder of this ‘once in a lifetime’ event.
So many villagers freely contributed to make the celebrations such a great success (and we acknowledge and thank them all), but every project needs a leader and it was Sue and Pam’s vision and enthusiasm that transformed a simple idea into a wonderful memory for us to all to treasure.
A message on behalf of the Jubilators – the aptly named group who staged the Joint Villages’ Jubilee celebrations.
We hope you enjoyed the festivities and that there was something for everyone to appreciate, remember, and enjoy through this village tribute to Her Majesty.
As the bunting sags, the flags flap tiredly, the balloons deflate and the church flowers fade, we draw to a close our celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. However a lasting legacy remains. In tangible, visible forms we can extend our memories and offer a lasting tribute through:
– the commemorative bench for all to enjoy – final position is yet to be decided.
– the tree planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative – a Malus (crab apple) variety “John Downie” with pale pink to white flowers and then red and orange fruits. The tree is planted on Royal Oak Lane.
– a time capsule whose contents are currently being gathered by Hemlocs who have very generously sponsored the whole project. This will be buried within the boundary of the village hall and marked with a special ceremony (details to be announced).
– the planters with red white and blue flowers which will continue to bloom throughout the summer.
– the areas of wild flowers in every corner of the village which will delight, inspire and lift spirits through this year and hopefully in years to come.
The memories and the legacies go beyond the physical as we reflect on:
– a generation of children who will remember what they were doing at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!
– the community spirit which emerged as preparations gathered momentum and was clearly displayed through the four-day celebration.
– friendships formed or renewed and families having fun together together.
The events of those four days and the months leading up to it embraced all that it is great and special about living in this village.
From the Jubilators Group, thanks to everyone who supported us in bigs ways, small ways, unseen ways and for coming out in your hundreds to be part of Hemingford Abbots’ small contribution in support of the national effort to congratulate the Queen on 70 glorious, unbelievable, years of service.
So, with happy memories, we take our final bow and disappear for a marmalade sandwich.
