Village Lunch

Hemingford Abbots Village Lunch was started in 1984. It is open to all residents of Hemingford Abbots, or past residents. A delicious home-cooked two course lunch is served in the Village Hall, on the third Tuesday of the month. It provides residents with a relaxed environment to continue friendships, and provides an opportunity to get to know new faces.

How does it all happen?

Over 70 volunteers work in teams, with a Team Leader, and each team helps with the cooking and serving of one lunch per year for each month. The team plan the menu and recipes, and most of the food is prepared at home and then transported to the Village Hall to serve hot to the diners. Our operating procedures have been reviewed by the Huntingdon District Council Environmental Health Officer, and at the October 2022 lunch inspection we were awarded a prestigious 5 star Food Health and Hygiene rating.

What do I need to do, to join as a diner?

Any resident can join Village Lunch, no booking is required, but if you are vegetarian or require gluten-free lunch, then please let us know beforehand. Diners gather at the Village Hall from 12.30, for lunch served at 12.45. The price of £5 per head includes a glass of wine or soft drink, plus tea or coffee to follow the meal.

How can I help?

You may want to join a friendly team of helpers.  Not all volunteers have to be cooks, as we welcome help with putting out tables and chairs, laying tables, serving and clearing from those who are not able to cook.
