We are a group of Hemingford Abbots volunteers, also known as The Jubilators, who are working hard to create a wonderful 4 days of free activities and events for us all to enjoy.
Hemingford Abbots has a long tradition of celebrating royal events and landmark occasions, and we want to host the biggest and best thank you party to date. This is a special moment in our collective history; a chance to come together as neighbours, friends, family, and community to pay tribute to an extraordinary woman, as she marks her 70-year reign.
With your support we endeavour to host a special 4 day bank holiday celebration, free of charge, for all residents to enjoy. The two villages are combining forces to create a full four day programme open to all residents of both villages A full programme of events has been published and widely circulated in both villages. Events taking places in Hemingford Abbots are:
> Thursday 2 June: Hemingford Abbots’ Picnic in the Park from 2pm at the Playing Field and Village Hall: a family event with live jazz, beer tent, old-fashioned side-stalls, entertainment, our very own Jubilympics with fun and games for the young and young at heart. Revellers can bring their own picnic, feast on the hog roast or indulge in High Tea.
On this day, and as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting initiative, we will plant an Oak Tree giving Hemingford Abbots a green legacy of its own.
> Saturday 4 June: Jubilee River Pageant. A flotilla of crafts – boaters, canoers, paddle boarders and punters suitably decorated in patriotic colours will parade down the river from the Backwater and process past the Regatta Field, mooring up at the Regatta Field. They will then join landlubbers with their hampers for a picnic extravaganza on the river bank where there will be live entertainment, a hog roast and the beer tent. Britannia will certainly rule the waves of the Great Ouse on what promises to be a spectacular evening.
>>In addition to these festivities, and planting the oak tree, we would like to create a lasting reminder of the Queen’s jubilee with a park bench plus commemorative plaque, for Hemingford Abbots villagers and visitors to enjoy.
>>In the coming months we will adorn our beautiful village with decorations, union jack bunting, and red white and blue flowers, to enjoy throughout the year.
Whilst the 4 day celebrations are FREE for all residents to enter and enjoy, there will be some costs associated with marking this celebration in such style. To ensure its success we are seeking donations to cover expenses which include:
- Memorial bench
- Oak tree
- Bands
- Insurances
- Leaflet printing
- Public toilets
Our ‘Abbots Jubilee Fund’ has got off to a great start and already stands at over £300. We are grateful to those donors but our anticipated expenses are around £2250. Can you help? Please click on this link: Donate
Any funds in excess of our needs will be given to local charities.
Donations will be recognised with a Donor Appreciation Board accompanied by names of individuals or sponsoring companies, or will remain anonymous if the donor wishes.
Thank you for your support.
May our celebrations be fit for a Queen. A very special Queen!
